travel italy liguria region la spezia
La Spezia is the southern gateway to the Cinque Terre by train.
Its a fairly tired looking town where we parked our van for four days while we rode the train into the Cinque Terre.

Note on our parked van, La Spezia, Italy, 2017.
Even though we studied the travel books and easily found what was supposed to be a "long term" parking lot
I was very leery about leaving our van parked in the open city lot for four days.
When I returned to the lot to pick it up I expected the worst... had it been towed, broken into, run into?
As I approached, I saw the van and began to relax... until I saw the papers under the wiper on the van... a ticket?.
No, it was a long note from a local that wanted to be sure I saw the right sights while visiting.
Our van had been rented in Germany and one of the notes was in German... the other two in English.
